5 Things to know before you renovate

1. It's okay to change your mind

You might think you have an idea of what you want to accomplish with your reno and you've spent hours looking through Pinterest and Instagram... but as soon as you make a decision... you change your mind again.

It's a big commitment and there are lots of big choices to make, it's completely normal to change your mind a million times.

2. Pay attention to the stairs

The location, orientation and style of the stairs in your home can have a big impact on your design.

It might seem like a boring thing to worry about, but trust me, its an important consideration.

3. It won't be perfect

Even though you've spent hours designing and redesigning, and you think you know exactly what you want... its very likely that once you're finished your renovations you will find things you would have done differently.

Sometimes you don't realize the imperfections for a long time, but eventually, you'll realize things could have been better another way. But LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES and you'll be happier with the result next time.

4. You're going to go over budget

All the planning and careful budgeting in the world can't save you from unanticipated cost run-ups and sometimes things just don't go as planned.

But its still a good idea to have a budget and try your best to stick with it. Just don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go exactly according to plan!

5. Hire ONE person to manage your renovation

You might think you can handle acting as the general contractor on your project and working with designers, contractors, design assistants, and trades to coordinate everything won't be too difficult.

But you'll likely be way less stressed and way more organized if you hire a single person who is responsible for coordinating the project and is responsible for the renovation. This person could be a designer, general contractor, or Interior Designer.

Either way... it will likely save you a lot of time and money in the end!
