10 Trees Initiative

Wild Path

At Green Slate, we love trees. Especially when the sun shines through them just right.

It's downright beautiful.

So we want to help make the earth a greener place and make sure there are plenty of trees to go around.

From now on, we are going to help make this possible by planting 10 trees for every project we do.

Quiet Forest

But aside from just being beautiful, trees have a lot going for them. They help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat for over 80% of the world's biodiversity.

They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and are key to over 1/4 of all medicines.

Woodland Path

Reasons you should love trees as much as we do:

  • they suck up harmful pollutants from the atmosphere

  • they capture rainwater, reducing the risk of natural disasters like flooding

  • a single tree can be a home to hundreds of species of insects, fungi, moss, mammals, and other plants

  • in addition to providing jobs for arborists, loggers, and researchers; the sustainable forestry industry provides us with the lumber we need for building homes and wood for heating and cooking

A MORE DIRECT IMPACT:
HEALTH
Trees have an immediate health benefit for us. Did you know that hospital patients recovering in rooms that overlook trees recover faster than those without the same views?
Remember that feeling you get when the sun comes through the trees just right? That feeling is actually connected to the reduction of stress and anxiety.
CLIMATE
By sucking up greenhouse gases, trees actually help cool the planet. They take in harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and release oxygen. In cities, trees can help reduce the overall temperature as much as 8 degrees. Since the populations of cities is expected to increase 66% by 2020, pollution and overheating are real threats.
Fortunately, trees can absorb up to 150 kg of carbon dioxide each year, helping to make cities a healthier and safer place to live.
